The TWifi network will give the public free internet access within the designated area for three months following the launch date, and after that registered users will have 15 minutes a day free and the option of a low cost pay-as-you-go service. It will be quick and easy to sign up to the service which also gives users permanent free access to a range of designated websites which will include information on local attractions, shops, events and public services.

The TWifi will be deployed by MLL Telecom at no cost to the borough council and will use existing street furniture, mainly CCTV camera columns, for the equipment needed to provide the service.

Council cabinet member with responsibility for the project, Jane March, said: “This is an exciting project which we think will offer lots of benefits to users and be very helpful for our visitors.”

The first phase of the project is expected to be up and running in January with coverage in the wider town centre in a few months later. In the longer term the partnership offers the potential for improved broadband in the rural areas and business centres of the borough.

Dave Pinnington, Director of Regional Networks, MLL Telecom says: “Our aim is to work with local communities to serve their needs, so we’re delighted to be able to work with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council on this initiative.

“Not only will it offer improved connectivity to residents and businesses, but it also opens the doors to visitors to find out more about the region and get online to share their experiences.

“Many studies put free public WiFi at the top of tourist wish lists, so we hope this initiative will help enhance the Tunbridge Wells visitor economy. We look forward to continuing to work with the Council over the coming months to further extend superfast broadband services in the region.

MLL Telecom, in partnership with Tendring District Council, is in the process of rolling out Metro WiFi in Town Centres and surrounding areas across Tendring. The first phase of this saw us delivering a solution along Clacton sea front to enable visitors and residents to get online during the Clacton Airshow.

We are now deploying the second phase which will see us delivering superfast broadband (initially 40Mbps will be available) out to business parks and are aiming to be live from February 2014 with packages from £125 per month.

If your company is a resident on this business park, we would of course like to discuss our plans with you and find out about your own personal experiences and requirements for broadband to see if you would be interested in this rollout. We are taking orders now, so if this service is of interest please contact us or register your interest by filling out an enquiry form.

The UK’s leading wireless, cloud and security distributor, Purdicom, has today announced an exclusive partnership with Marlow based MLL Telecom.  Under the terms of the agreement, Purdicom will offer licenced radio solutions, packaged with spectrum licenced to MLL Telecom, alongside a range of professional services such as link monitoring, on-site support and site acquisition. This represents a shift in approach for both MLL Telecom and Purdicom.

In recent months Purdicom has experienced a huge increase in demand for high quality, reliable wireless backhaul solutions, driven by the surge in growth of rural and urban WISPs along with CCTV solution providers.  As a Ceragon and Cambium Networks distributor, Purdicom already offers a large number of links licensed from Ofcom.  Using licensed technology provides the extra layer of security that customers need, however the long lead times from Ofcom along with the high cost of the spectrum hinder take-up by businesses.

Thanks to the new agreement with MLL Telecom, Purdicom will be able to provide licensed links in just one week and offer significant discounts against the prices usually charged by Ofcom.  Purdicom plans to offer its customers pre-packaged deals on links to include the hardware, planning, spectrum and NOC services, lowering the barriers for adoption.

Purdicom MD Hugh Garrod said, “We have seen significant growth in many of our ISP customers in recent months, driven by government backed investment schemes such as BDUK and Connected Cities.  The common message from these customers is their desire to have good quality, reliable backhaul at an affordable price.  Traditionally these customers have used 5GHz but the band is becoming increasingly congested due to the prevalence of Wi-Fi networks.  This unique agreement allows us to satisfy that demand with carrier grade licensed technology at enterprise prices.”

Karl Edwards, Chief Commercial Officer at MLL Telecom comments, “This landmark agreement is part of our ongoing mission to deliver secure, cost-effective and high quality connectivity for the UK’s fast growing digital economy. By licensing our spectrum to Purdicom, we’re able to bring more spectrum to the marketplace where it can be used for the benefit of businesses across the country. Working with Purdicom also opens up a new revenue stream for us, strengthening our position in the increasingly competitive market.”

MLL Telecom, one of the UK’s leading providers of fully managed networks has today announced that following an extensive OJEU procurement exercise to prove value for money and technical competence, it has been awarded a place on the new Public Sector Telecoms Services framework, listed under LOT 3 (WAN Services). The company has also been listed under the National Education Telecoms Services framework, allowing MLL Telecom to provide its wide range of WAN services to the public sector.

The new Telecom Services Framework offers non PSN services as standard, which are suitable for the majority of regional users. The overall framework consists of twelve lots ranging from unified communications to lines and minutes and has an overall  potential OJEU value of between £250M and £1Bn over the four-year term of the contract.

However, in addition MLL Telecom has also been recently accredited to provide CESG CAS(T) fixed and radio services, enabling it to also provide PSN compliant services through the new framework. This allows MLL Telecom to offer a secure stepping stone to full PSN accreditation to its customers whenever they require cost-effective and reliable network connectivity.

Darrin Chadwick, MLL Telecom Public Services Sector Director said: "This new telecoms services framework is ideally suited for regional public sector organisations such as councils, health, housing associations, education as well as blue light services. For many of these, the only option, until recently, was to use the national PSN framework with its inherent bias for central government contracts and suppliers. This new framework will provide a route to faster procurement and more economical services from more regionally focussed suppliers, bridging the gap for regional public sector procurement.”

MLL Telecom, one of the UK’s leading providers of fully managed networks, has today announced that it has been awarded the CESG Assured Service certification for telecoms in light of the work it is carrying out as part of the HMG Public Services Network (PSN) initiative. MLL Telecom is one of a handful of companies (50-100 people) in the UK that has been awarded this CAS (T) certification.

The certification was awarded with regards to the operation and management of the Next Generation Network (‘NGN’) commissioned by Customer Service Direct - a joint venture between BT and Suffolk County Council. The Next Generation Network consists of a core MPLS network, DSLAM access network in unbundled exchanges and an extensive router access layer, connected with LLU and Openreach Ethernet products.

The awarded certification acts as an assurance for both the public sector and private sector, demonstrating that MLL Telecom can design and operate a network that meets the requirements of the PSN initiative. At the same time, it enables large telecommunications companies and systems integrators to collaborate with MLL Telecom on large network projects with information security requirements up to business impact level 2-2-4 (2 for integrity, 2 for confidentiality and 4 for availability), for the transmission of UNCLASSIFIED and PROTECT data. Moreover, the certification will also allow customers to build smaller and/or specialised networks that are not procured through the PSN framework but that will be capable of connecting to a PSN in the future.

The scheme builds upon the MLL Telecom Information Security Management System (ISMS) certification to ISO 27001, with additional specific guidance as defined and maintained by CESG. The scheme is currently designed for telecoms services, although it may be applicable to other Information Communication and Technology (ICT) services in the future.

Simon Banks, Director, Service Development and acting CISO, MLL Telecom commented: “This certification is testament to the work we have been doing and are continuing to carry out with public sector organisations across the UK. It is a foundation stone of our complete portfolio of telecommunications service capabilities, enabling us to provide a truly integrated and secure service proposition. The CAS (T) certification will enable us to get involved in more projects, delivering specialised networking services that meet the increasing need for efficient connectivity across different regions of the UK.”

MLL Telecom,  one of the UK’s leading providers of fully managed networks, will be looking to provide a radio backhaul link using white space spectrum to enable Internet access to visitors at the Electromagnetic Wave event in London this Sunday, 5th May. For this occasion, MLL Telecom has been awarded a one-day temporary license from Ofcom to trial the world’s first pop-up white space network.

Electromagnetic Wave is an event offering talks and workshops held on the 5th May 2013, on a converted East German fishing vessel moored in Canary Wharf, London. Organised by the non-profit group behind last year's Electromagnetic Field festival, the event aims to offer the opportunity to discuss and learn more about innovative technologies and science advancements in the fields of connectivity and communications, among others.

Using mobile wireless equipment from Neul, providers of innovative wireless network technologies, MLL Telecom will trial a new unlicensed public spectrum resource that uses frequencies that can send signals over long distances and through walls. Moreover, MLL Telecom will trial different technical applications at the event using the white space spectrum, including small cell backhaul, measurement of signal strength of Wi-Fi and temperature and water sensors.

Ben Ward, Network Design Engineer at MLL Telecom explained: “At MLL Telecom we continue to push boundaries with innovative solutions and are very excited about being the first to trial white space spectrum in such an unusual scenario. The experience will allow us to further understand the potential of white space and harness it to service the Internet of Things and Smart Cities, as well as its use for rural broadband. We strive to continue to use innovative solutions to solve connectivity issues and provide flexible, efficient networks throughout the UK.”

Paul Egan, Vice-president of Business Development at Neul said: “It is a great opportunity to be able to work with MLL Telecom on this ground breaking initiative that reflects how the UK is in a leading position to make white space a reality. We are also very grateful to OFCOM for enabling us to participate in the event by providing the licensing.”
